A preschool Co-Op in the Making
Hello Friends with Cute People,
We are considering starting a preschool co-op this fall (probably not till October). I am just guessing ages 4+5, but we are still planning so not sure yet, it depends who is interested.
Right now we are thinking it will possibly be Wednesday Morning.
We are planning to have it at our church building, Victory Faith, right off the freeway on Argonne.
We will meet two times a month.
We are thinking of using the Five in a Row Volume 1
Basically Five in A Row uses a different piece of Children's literature each week and incorporates Math, Language, Art, Geography, and more all through that one book. For example, the first week is "The Story about Ping". It is a little book about a duck in China. So for geography you can pull in lessons on the culture of China, or the study of The Yangtze river, ect. For art there are sections to talk about drawing water, the use of different mediums, ect. For literature there is discussion on fiction, what a classic story is, the use of repetition, ect. Science, could be the study of ducks. For math there is counting the ducks. Some of the material might be a little over the heads of our preschoolers, but if so we can always simplify. The main thing is that the stories are great and it gives us a starting point for each time we meet.
For a format we will have a google document online with areas to volunteer, for example :
Science (to do a craft or experiment based on the book)
Math (with a little lesson from the book on counting, or patterns, or whatever is that week)
Art (with a little craft/art lesson from the book
Geography (perhaps with a craft or dress-up, or map
Snack or Music (depending on the book),
Volunteers to be in the nursery with younger kids
Lesson (we may incorporate a bible lesson into our plan but not sure yet, these books are not christian but the authors of FIAR are and they incorporate Godly ideals)
People willing to bring any needed supplies
Each one of these will have a line each time we meet and people can go online and sign up for what they would like to contribute for that week.
Allison and I are working with Heidi Larson to help get this up and going, I just wanted to let you all know so that if anyone is interested that can be aware of what we are planning and contact me if think you would like to join us. It will be lots of fun! Thanks!
