This week in Review

There was fun for all as Hug cousins visited from Seattle this past week. The little ones did seem to enjoy their time together, and Judah and Hannah had many wonderful opportunities to enhance their sharing skills, which were greatly in need of enhancement. There were grand adventures including trips to the Y for swimming, Mobius, and Rocky Roccoco for pizza dinner. The clan almost had to abandon the beloved pizza establishment after realizing that they had run out of Alaskan Amber on tap, but their decision to stick it out was rewarded with some of the best pizza in town (whole wheat to boot!) Here the kiddos are pictured enjoying some dress up time at Mobius.

In what some members of the household are calling a merciful act of God, the family scale has ceased to function. While being on the fritz for some time, it has finally thrown in the towel, refusing to be rejuvenated even by new batteries. Aforementioned family members may be found doing the happy dance when they enter the bathroom and discover that they no longer have to be reminded of their weight. If this happy dancing burns enough calories it may be a final twist of irony in the short lifespan of the family scale; in it's demise it may have finally helped someone lose weight.

Spanking continues to be among the most common activity shared by Hug family members. While spanking has had a long history of bringing about tears, recent bouts of family discipline have caused Elizabeth to wonder if the right people are shedding tears. Last night she was forced to spank her two year old repeatedly after he would not be convinced to remain in his own bed without howling. This 4:30 am encounter with the rod of correction did finally bring about sleeping for the wee lad, but not before his mother had been brought to tears.

Time marches onward and yet it seems nothing is actually happening during the long days on the Hug homestead. There are repeated cleaning efforts, which seem to bring about little actual cleanliness. There are attempts at child training and yet the children appear, for the most part, untrained. Bills remain unpaid, shelves remain undusted, and books remain unread. The good news is that there seems to be a general attitude about the premises of unbridled joy. Between the barrage of gunfire, the squeals of brotherly um..... affection, toddler car noises and weeping from those facing spankings, the most common sound to be heard throughout the house is that of laughter.
