What life looks like

People sometimes ask me what an average day looks like for us homeschooling. Well here is my schedule:

8:00 Breakfast and Bible
9:00 Math and Handwriting
10:00 Snack and Memory Work
11:00 Reading
12:00 Lunch
1:00 Quiet Time
2:00 Chores
3:00 Free Time

And here is what an actual day looks like:

5:45 Toddler wakes up
7:45 Make yummy fall breakfast
9:15 Executive decision is made that school will be canceled. Today was nature hike day, which was skipped due to recovering from illness.
9:30-11:30 Kids seem to intuit that if they stay outside they will not be asked to do school or chores.

Work proceeds on the giant kid fort in the back yard.

10:45 Go to nurse the baby, only to discover mysterious yellow goo on hand and shirt.
10:48 Mom and Baby Shower to wash off poop explosion.
10:59 Toddler was bathed after numerous failed attempts to dissuade her from joining bath time fun
11:15 Finally nursing the baby
11:30 Asked oldest to make lunch for the family since I was still nursing.
11:50 Spend 15 minutes looking for shoes
12:05 Head out for errands and Library
12: 30 Get to the library, have to wake up toddler who fell asleep in car (due to her 5:45am start)
12:48 Take 4 year old to bathroom, only to see that librarian restocked all the books we set on the shelf while we were away. What an efficient librarian.
12:50 Try to re-find all our books.
1:07  Attempt to put kids down for naps with new books.
1:15 Toddler is refusing to nap, she did, afterall, have that 5 min snooze in the car.
1:20 Dinner on to simmer
1:30 Corrective action is taken and toddler is put back in bed
1:45 Mom attempts a 20 minute rest
1:46  Baby wakes up from his nap.
2-3 Mom does writing assignments with oldest while jigging crabby baby.
3:15- 4:15 :  Mom wanders around in a fog, wishing she had coffee.
4:15 Dad comes home - we made it!

The rest of the day is kind of a blurr. There was dinner, family clean up, bible time (since we missed that in the am), dad played some games with the kids and the exhausted, grumpy toddler was put to bed early, causing a vicious chain reaction of a another pre-6am wake up the next day.

People get sick, little people mess up schedules, and our days get off kilter. The good thing is, looking back on this day I can see that the kids did get nature study (they were outside), physics, cooking 101, PE, Group Dynamics practice, and intro to architecture and design. A pretty advanced curriculum if I do say so myself.
